Post subject: what are your experiances of owning two pet dogs ? Reply with quote

hi
my parents aways had 2 dogs up untill resently but they lived out side and were more like working dogs than pet ones .
I have never realy thought about having more than one dog up untill now however merlin is a realy friendly sociable dog and loves to play with outher dogs , also my parents are getting a pup next summer and i would love to have a pup at the same time so when we go out together the pups will meet up and play together like me and my friend do with my dog merlin and her dog rue ( these are pups from the same litter and they are now just over a year and love to meet up and see each outer !!)
I realise obviosly that it will be double the cost for vet fee s and food etc which i feel we areable to pay out for , i have the time as i stay at home with the children while my partner works and while im walking 1 i can walk / play with 2 etc and i know i have time to walk / play wit the dogs individualy too to build up a good bond between me and the new pup !! I wont be getting anouther one untill my daughter is 5 and my dog is two so i have plenty of time to look into the idear of having two dogs and reserching into Airdales - the breed my father has always loved and owned . i will be getting another male dog and they will both be entire as i do not agree with the consept of castration with out realy good cause !!
Basicaly i would just like to know the experiances you lot have had with living with 2 or more dogs inside of a fammily home !

My mom and dad always kept two dogs together. We have good and bad experiences as 2 dogs we used to have got on realy well and would keep eachother company whe nobody was in. On the bad side though we had 2 that would get on but if one of them found something ie a toy that was hiding behing the chair then they would fight. In the end when we went out we had to keep one in the kitchen and one in the living room because they never got over the fight, even when we were in the house you could feel the bad atmosphere between them so we had to keep a very close eye on them.

When me and Ash moved into our house we decided straight away that we would only have the 1 dog but thats because we have a small house and a young son, however i think i would only keep one dog anyway regardless of where we live. I know of someone who has about 7 dogs and they all get on realy well but it's like a mad house Laughing

I think however many dogs you have or want people should always consider what their dogs personality is eg do they get on well with other dogs, can you afford to keep more than one dog, how much room do the dogs have access to etc.

Everybody has different circumstances and i suppose the amount of dogs or other animals you keep just depends on you Wink

Well i feel having 2 dogs is more work than 1 but very nice when they have a run off the lead, i liked the idea of 2 dogs but ill only get one and keep it outside to live, when dogs live outside, they are working ones when inside they are pets
