| Post subject: Please please help me with this moral dilemma! |

Ok where to start.....
My friend has pet rabbits that she keeps in her garden. I've noticed for a while that she doesn't look after the rabbits very well, the cages are rarely cleaned or uncovered and the rabbits get no exercise and very little attention. They've had no jabs and theyre claws are too long. Ive done my best to help my friend to cope with them. Ive clipped their claws and even helped to clean the cages but she isnt improving as an owner despite my constant reminders and help. I went round yesterday and the cages were filth, theyre living in their own waste and had no water or food. I cannot report my friend, we are too close and it would break her heart, she seems to love them but she just cant cope. I spoke to her about it and suggested she rehome them but she cant bare to let them go, especially Monty. However she has told me that I can bring the other rabbit (Mattu) to live with me as long as she can still see her. She won't let her go anywhere else but to me and i really dont know what to do. I have space for a hutch and money isnt an issue but i already have a rabbit and three guinea-pigs and dont wanna risk becoming neglectful myself if im too overstretched. Should I take her or leave her? Please help |

That's a decision only you can make, you could also ask the RSPCA to pay her a visit and give her some welfare advice.

| I think I knew what I had to do. I went and collected Mattu today, shes such a lovely girl and I know ill be ok to take care of her |

awww good for you taking her in, i bet she is gettting lots of TLC now 
It's hard seeing animals in distress and im just like you, if someone asks me to take thier animal in then i do ( only if i have the room and knowledge). I would phone the R.S.P.C.A about the other rabbits though, they are there to offer advice to your friend as well as take them away if needs be.

| You made the right choice. Even if you neglected her a LITTLE, because you're overstretched (I doubt you will, though)...it's better than massive neglect to the point of no food or water! |

| I would take her and rehome her, or see if you can get a local rescue to take her so that she would be spayed and vaccinated, they also do home checks. Go to www.rabbitrehome.org.uk forum you will get alot more advice there. |

Heya!
Just thought i'd give a quick update on the situation. Mattu still lives with me, she has a nice hutch now and is relaxed and friendly. It was a bit hard at first to try and spend enough time with all the pets but im used to it now, they have a schedule of who gets to go in the garden and the house and they're all happy and healthy. I've had Mattu's jabs done, cleaned her eyes up and she's now a healthy weight with alot of energy and a very healthy appetite. Thanks for all advice, this situation definately had a happy ending of all involved! |
