Post subject: Stumpy downhill again Reply with quote

Sadly Stumpy has taken a turn for the worse again Sad Last week she was weighing 411g and we noticed that suddenly she felt boney, put her on the scales and she is now weighing 324g. Will be going to the vets this week and im going to ask to have her PTS as i can't keep watching her fall ill all the time. It's not fair on her or Rumpy. The vets said that going a couple of months without having to have her dental is ok to keep her alive but personaly im not convinced. She is in so much pain and losing weight and then regaining it all the time can't be healthy for her so i just want her to be free from all the suffering. I hope the vet agrees this time, it gets upsetting to see her up and down all the time Crying or Very sad

Aww I'm so sorry to hear that things have got to this stage again, but like you I can't see an animal suffer...and would want her to run free too.
Thinking of you Sad

Thanks for your replies, stumpy is booked in for tomorrow as we had to try her on liquid food for a week ( it's the best way to find out if her tooth has overgrown, if she eats it and puts on weight then it means her teeth have overgrown and can't chew on the pellets). She has eaten the liquid food and put on a tiny bit of weight so we know that her teeth are the problem. I will let you all know how she gets on.

Stumpy is home yey!!!!

We had to leave her at the vets for a couple of hours while she under went her dental, signed that dreaded consent form aswell! It turned out that it wasn't her teeth overgrowing again. This time she had a woobly tooth which they had to remove and then they came across an absess. She had her teeth filed whilst in there though just to keep them short and prevent her having to go back there in the near future.

She is still on antibiotics and painkillers for life, her antibiotics dosage has been increased though. The vet is very confident that she will pick up again very quickly so i have just got to keep checking her weight each week.

She has a follow up appointment in 7 days to check that the absess has cleared and that she is gaining enough weight.

Im so pleased though as i was expecting the worst outcome. She has had a few raisens for being a good girl and is now snuggled up with Rumpy fast asleep Very Happy

Just a quick update. Stumpy had her post op check today. She had gone down to 301g in weight which was dissapointing but iv just got to give her some recovery food in the hope that she will gain weight again just like last time. All being weel she has only got to go back in 2 weeks time to be reassessed and be taken off the recovery feed. Apart from that she is bright and alert Very Happy
