Post subject: Stumpy and Reggie vet update Reply with quote

Good news for Reggie! He is responding well to the tablets and his legs are heeling better each day, his ears are starting to look better aswell. The vet wants to keep him on the tablets for 1 month as they are having a good affect. He has to go in next friday for a check up but other than that he is fine.

Rather worrying for Stumpy though Crying or Very sad After looking at her teeth and examining her yesterday the vet is very concerned about her weight loss. She is going in next Friday for x-rays on her skull as the vet thinks she could have a dental desease. The problem with that is he said if it is bad then there is only so much they can do for her. Even if she doesn't have anything wrong with her teeth, the vet said he will be very concerned that there is something wrong with her internaly Sad She has been sent home with antibiotics and painkillers for a week to see if she responds to those. should nothing show up on her x-rays then she will have to have some blood tests.

so next friday iv got to take Stumpy to the vets at 8.20am and collect her at 4.20pm the same day, whilst collecting her iv got to take Reggie in for his check up. I'm so stressed at the moment, we were so pleased about Reggie doing well and now my poor little stumpy is realy ill Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad

I weighed Stumpy today and she was 320g Sad when the vet wieghed her last week she was 344g. She should idealy be between 400 ad 600g so i realy am worrying now. I weighed Rumpy aswell as i thought she was overweight and she is! she weighs 666g Shocked Stumpy used to be close to her size so it's clear now just how much weight she has lost Crying or Very sad

Going to the vets tomorrow morning so i will have to wait until her x-ray results are in before we know what is wrong with her, i just hope it's something that can be easily treated Sad

Stumpy has had her x-rays, sadly she isn't in a good way Sad Her teeth don't line up at all and she has very bad overgrown roots. Whilst at the vets they also noticed that 2 of her back teeth had become so overgrown that they had stuck into her cheek. She has had them cut and that is all the cuold do for her. She is on antibiotics and painkillers for now and the vet wants her back in next week for a check up. He said that it will be a case of closely monitoring her weight and if she gains any then we will more than likely have to continue her medication on a permanent basis. However it is likely that she will put on weight and then just suddenly lose it again, in that case then we will have to decide what is best for her ( in other words i think he means put her to sleep Crying or Very sad ). I personaly arn't keen on her being on medication for the rest of her life though as if she does need painkillers then to me it just means she is suffering, i'm not bothered about money i would pay as much as needed to get her better but there just isn't a cure for her condition. To be honest im completley heartbroken as it's only a slim chance that she will carry on without needing medication. She may just need her teeth filing every few month which wouldn't be a problem but the vet said that if was a case of it having to be done every month and her weight going up and down then it wouldn't be good for her. Sad I worried that maybe i would of been able to stop this from happening but he said it's genetic so i will have to keep an eye on Archie and Rumpy aswell as they are all related.

On a more postive note, the vet was very pleased with Reggies progress and he has told us to finnish off his course of tablets and thats it for him, he doesn't need to go back anymore, only if he gets bad again which hopefully won't happen Very Happy

Thanks hun, will keep you updated. Stumpy seemed to eat abit more last night which is good. I will weigh her on Friday before she goes to the vets to see if she has put some weight on.

As for Reggie he is so much happier now and doesn't scratch at all so all is well. He will be out with Archie for an hour or tow tonight so that should be fun Laughing

Awww thannks hun Very Happy I'm going to get Archie and Rumpy booked in for a health check in a couple of weeks just to make sure that they are ok. As it's genetic i would rather be safe than sorry.
