Post subject: Kitten Sight Problem? Advice welcome please Reply with quote

[align=justify]One of my kittens seems to have a sight problem and some other problems!

TicTac is almost pure white and has very very blue eyes. He has one eye that seems alot smaller than the other one; and this eye doesn't follom strings/ toys etc. He doesn't mix very well with the other kittens and seems to have disowned his Mum.

I have decided that it would be best if I keep this kitten as my ginger Tom seems to have taken on the "Uncle role" and has really taken to this kittle scamp but ........... this kitten is going to have to be part of a family of 9 cats and would appreciate some advice re giving him a good life. I have put a collar on him and will start lead training if necessary within the next couple of days.

Awww sorry to hear that Sad The best person to speak to would be Shadylady as she has a cat who is blind. She will more than likely be on some time today Wink

i suggest you take him to the vet, just to get a confirmation of whats wrong as he might have something else wrong that they might be able to cure or diagnos white cats with both eyes blue tend to be deaf, i only say this because if one of my cats is ill the other two tend to avoid him/her as they can sense it im sure of it Wink .

my cat is blind in both eyes and his pupils r large all the time its just like his eyes r black holes but this is due to a head trauma, here is a pic of copper

if your cat is blind in one eye though id still think its best to keep him in though as if he goes out he wont have all round vision, and to make him happy in the house buy toys that make a lot of noise and make sure his food bowl, litter tray etc r in the same place at all times as he will get confused otherwise. also my cat loves tunnels and beds wid a roof on like a tent so he can get out the way of the other cats.

its great your keeping him good luck. poor little thing. keep us updated on his progress please. Very Happy

Thanks for the advice - TicTac appears to be both blind and deaf bless him; but he is a very happy little kitty so have put a collar on him and starting lead training. He can be a housecat I really don't mind if he never goes out. Litter tray not a problem - he finds it and uses it! And he can definately find the food bowl.

Unfortunately due to relationship breakups Mum is leaving tomorrow with two of the kittens. My cats seem fine with the remaining three kittens and two of my cats are house cats anyway so this little furball should fit in very well.

Looking at his eyes Shadylady - his pupils are large all the time. They don't appear to focus on anything. Could you please point me in the right direction re harnesses etc as I would like this little scamp to go out with me with him!

ive tried quite a few harnesses and the best one i found was in my local petshop for 5.99 as it clips into place like a dog harness, the others i tried were to fiddly and took ages to get on. I started my cat on a harness by putting it on him each day for half an hour but not taking him out on a lead and he soon got used to harness and he now knows wat it is Wink and he meows at the front door to go out all the time now its so cute. you will probably get loads of people stopping you in the street asking why your cat is n a lead im fed up telling people now lol

This is like my cats one.
