It is illegal to buy them as it illegal to trade them, delieratley kill them, and destroy there habitat. I have not had one as a pet but was thinking about it. All you need is a big plastic container filled with a soil like substrate. Add some hiding places, branches,fake plants and other things that resemble it's original habitat. Also you should keep it moist as the area they live in is woodland. They eat small bugs like earthworms, slugs and spiders. If you live near a woodland area look near a small moist area like a pond and look under big pieces of bark, corrigated iron and in and around compost heaps but be carefull as grass snakes like this type of area to. These are available from garden centres or try amazon.these lizards love slugs,spiders & small insects and can live well into their twenties(sometimes longer;one lived to 54 in captivity). But its best to observe them in the wild as they are a protected species.
