Hello, this is my first visit to this site and it looks very useful
We currently have a 5 year old female cat whom is very loving and generally spends most of her time indoors, only venturing out for the odd adventure! She is very affectionate but we do worry she gets a bit bored at home when we are out at work, she is so pleased to see us when we get home of an evening.
She has always been our only cat and we had her 'done' as soon as she was old enough as we didn't want her to have kittens.
She is generally not very temperamental, although she has her moment, as we all do! We often have the neighbours cats in the garden and provided they don't go for her she is ok, just the occasional bit of hissing, if they do go for her she is willing to hold her own and chase them away though.
Due to this we are thinking of getting her a playmate, a friend's cat has just had kittens and we have been offered our pick of them. There is an adorable female which we would really like. I would prefer a female as from past experience they are normally more affectionate than males.
My questions are -
Is it ok to introduce a female kitten to a female adult? Will they get on?
Will it affect how affectionate our current cat is towards us?
Thanks guys!

I have introduced a kitten to my female cat a few years ago and to start off with they would chas eachother around the house and do the usual hissing but nothing serious. After a few weeks they soon settled down and became very playful with eachother.
It will just be a case of sorting out who is boss and there will be some arguements, afterall your cat will see it as another cat steeping onto thier patch.
I would leave all the doors inside the house open though ( i dont mean doors to the garden etc) just so they can escape from eachother if they have had enough ____________

welcome to petchat, some male cats are affectionate my cat copper licks my face like a dog when he purrs and kneads my body he even follows me everywhere, even before he was blind he was like that, i think the only point when a male cat isnt affectionate is when they arnt neutered and they go wandering looking for a queen.
its also usually easier to introduce a male to a female aswell, as female cats tend to be more terrotorial than a male, my auntie introduced a female kitten to her female cat and at first they tended to avoid each other and the cat wasnt interested in playin like the kitten was and she showed it by ocasionally fighting with the kitten, but now the kitten has grown they do tend to tolerate each other now.
