Post subject: Dumbo rats wanted Reply with quote

I want to get 3-4 female dumbo rats. I've tried a few pet shops in my local area (Cambridgeshire) and they only seem to have male dumbos. Does anyone know of anywhere in Cambs that has them?

Thanks Smile x

Hi and welcome, Smile

a lot of petshop rats are bred by backyard breeders or large mills, as can be seen in the link below:

warning, contains some pics of dead rats! Don't look if you don't want to. Wink
http://images.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=http://pawofjustice.org/up loads/MouseFood-ME.jpg&imgrefurl=http://pawofjustice.org/index.php%3Fcat%3D11&h=560&w=500&sz=54&hl=en&start=21&um=1&tbnid=2Bj9RB9lvASFPM:&tbnh=133&tbnw=119&prev=/images%3Fq%3Drodent%2Bbreeding%2Bfarm%26start%3D18%26ndsp%3D18%26svnum%3D10%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den%26rlz%3D1T4ADBF_en-GBGB226GB226%26sa%3DN

So really I'd urge you to seek out a rescue, you may have more luck on www.fancy-rats.co.uk Very Happy Any reason they have to be dumbos?

Erm, garden centres get their rats from backyard breeders! Confused

There are plenty of rats in rescue, but I can't guarantee you'll find all dumbos! I guess the personality is more important though! If you can't find any in a rescue, at the very least please seek out a reputable breeder. The www.fancy-rats.co.uk link will help you find rescues and good breeders. Smile

well after seeing the link u put up twig,i know i wont b buying any pets from shops. I think until you see something like that video you put up you dont realise how bad conditions for these poor animals really are. Its either reputable breeder or rescue from now on for me. Admititadly (cant spell) including linford all my animals apart from the dogs have been bought from pet shops. But i dont wana support the back yard breeders
