| Post subject: disturbing cruelty case |
 |

I heard this disturbing news report on the radio yesterday and it was also in my local paper these things really upset me i can not understand why people can be so cruel if it a case of not being able to feed them why dont these owners hand them over to the authority instead of seeing them suffer it makes me so mad.
RSPCA inspectors are investigating the discovery of nearly 40 dead animals in stables in Trimdon, County Durham.
They found the remains of at least 19 horses, 11 chickens, three dogs and a rabbit. The figure is expected to rise.
Three dogs - a rottweiler and two border collies - were found alive. It is believed they survived by feeding off other animals or tearing open bags of dog food left there.
The RSPCA said the death toll was likely to rise as investigators continued their work to piece together exactly what happened at Bank Top Stables.
The animal welfare charity was alerted on Bank Holiday Sunday after a member of the public saw a dog wandering and became concerned for its welfare - but had not seen inside the stable.
Inspector Mark Gent, who found the harrowing scene, said: "When I got there, I smelt a terrible smell and knew there was something wrong and phoned the local police who attended and we broke in and found quite a shocking sight.
"I have smelt it before, sadly, but you know that smell and I knew instinctively there was something wrong. I have never seen anything on this scale before."
An RSPCA spokeswoman said the society was still trying to locate the owner of the stables, who has not been seen for some time.
She said: "We found between 36 to 38 dead animals but that is a conservative estimate.
"We cannot really say exactly how many animals will be there until we have finished our investigations." |

i think people often take on animals without thinking of all the costs that incur as part of the responsibility. they love the animals but can't afford the upkeep, and it often goes horribly wrong.
i would love loads of animals but know that i can't afford them. so just stick to the one. why can't people just stop and think. it gets me really angry. then we would avoid some cases like this. |

| I heard about this at work the other day it is very very sad. As Pollaton said I think people can get addicted to adding to their collection of animals very easily. Animals are very expensive to keep and it costs a fortune to be a responsible owner: insurance costs, basic vet fees, food bills and all the extras. Some people do take animals on without doing their homework first that's when these things happen. How sad |
