One of my best friends, had got 2 16 year old cats, and one of them is on the grim side MAlibu, is a white and tabby old girl, but she is fading fast, thet took her too the vet the other day, and they confirmed she is dying, but my friends parents cant bring themselves to have malibu PTS, they would never be able to Look at Sooty (Malibu's brother) in the face again.
Although they r one of our neighbours, i havent seen the cats 4 a while, so i am going to go and say goodbye to her 2mrrw.
The vet said that it is simply old age caught up with her, so any tips on how to make her comfortable in her last few days?
best wishes

How awful Luke - my two are still fortunately young (3 and 4 years old) so I still have many more happy years with them. Malibu is obviously not in any considerable pain if they've decided not to have her put down, so I guess the best thing for her is to be given some extra special love but to take care that she is not over-exerted. With our animals, we had to have our bulldog put down when he was 10 years old due to him being in extreme arthritic pain - he eventually couldn't walk and would cry all the time so it was the kindest thing we could do for him. Our maltese poodle was about 13 and had been on heart pills for 2 years when we found her in her basket the one morning having passed on peacfully during the night - she had been her normal affectionate and energetic self the day before. But with my one poor tabby we also decided not to have her put down when it was confirmed she had kidney failure, and she spent her last days in her basket next to my bed with her favourite blanket. I told her how much she was loved everyday and stroked her gently (she still purred furiously the dear thing) all the time. When it was her time she disappeared to the bottom of the garden and even though we moved her up to the house each time, she kept on going back, and this is where she finally left us after a couple of days of this. I'm not sure what's worse actually - the stress of waiting for your animal to die, or making the decision for him.

As they only live a few doors away from us, they r round here all the time, and my friends mum, is one of my mums best friedns, Karen.
Anyway Karen was just dropping something off, b4 she went shopping, and she said that she would be suprised if Malibu lasted out the day, she is just sleeping and drifting away, and Sooty keeps batting her to wake up

Well i was with Michelle today went there for lunch, as had no tutors, and my mum and karen, her best friend who is Michelles mum went shopping. Anyway back to the poitn Malibu ahs sadly got worse, now she is just sleeping, and finds it difficult to get around, lucky they r both housecats. its sooooooooooo sad, but they couldnt have her PTS, that would make things worse.
We all were hpoing she may improve, but no such luck, i would be very suprised if she is here at the end of the month, the rate she is detereating (sp?) at.
I'll keep u posted, and see if i can post a piccy of Mali in her healthier days.
