At what age do they start to talk? How do you teach them, or do they just pick up what they hear? Maybe you could do an article on this for the site????????

my friend used to have an macaw and she was a great girl. i was wondering was your african grey, hand reared or not.
was it an import or was it bred in captivity?

chalky was born in captivity took away from her parents at 12 days old then hand reared. She is coming up 9 mths old and just starting talking but not all greys talk they are like children and all start at different ages most dnt start properly talking until about 15mths but alot talk quite early some as young as 4mths,.Others decide not to talk at all no one is guaranteed a talking parrot unless when bought it talks already.Ive always wanted another bird and this weekend was when my wish come true. After 3wks off splitting from my other half he finaly won me back by buying me not 1 parrot but 2.I am know the proud owner off a lesser sulpher cockatoo hes pretty quiet talks a little and already very possessive of me not letting any1 within a few feet of me,hes 3 and had a pretty rough life up til now having 3 other owners before me.I also gained a 2 and a half yr old green wing macaw who isnt so friendly as he/she was parent reared and hasnt communicated alot with humans,so a lot of hard work ahead, will add some pics as soon as i can.The macaw is great hes so good at talking but insists on calling me robert as thats what his old owner was called, its just his beak that puts me off as i know he could do alot of damage if he wanted.
