| Post subject: fish food..bad for cats? |
 |
|
we adopted a cat from an elderly lady who could no longer look after it..
we have had problems with feeding this cat..trying different brands of food to see which it preffers..(as some made him sick not long after or he just left it)
lately hes been not eating hardly any of his food,(this is normal with this cat, as well as being sick every so often) but will still take fresh cooked chicken(so his appetite isnt affected)
i found him trying to eat some of my goldfish food flakes and he likes it.. (after all they do smell of fish)so i sprinkled some on his food and mashed it in so he'll eat the meat..
is this bad for him?
please if anyone could let me know, id be very grateful =) |

hi
i dont know wether it is bad, but the cats we had on the farm were always eating it as we had a fantastic pond with coy carp -they were huge!!
how ever my father was always mad at them for eating it not because it was harmful but because it cost money and dad tryed to only feed the cats the bare minimum to keep them killing the mice!
how ever it never seemed to afect the cats but it might have somthing horid in it so have a look on the ingrediants also the food dad got was especialy good for coy carps and they were pellets so i dont know if that makes any difrence?

I used to work in a cattery and we had many fussy eaters in throughout the year. If your cat is eating chicken then i would just give him that for his meals. We had a persian in once called boots and that was all he would eat ( he was the only one that got a freshly cooked dinner every night lol).
As for the fish food being sprinkled on his meal that shouldnt harm your cat, my cat is always mopping up the bits that didnt make it into the tank.
I wouldnt worry to much many cats are very fussy with what they eat. Iv looked after ones that only eat fish or cooked meats. As for him being sick after his meals has he been seen by a vet at all? ____________

Hi,
sorry your cat is being sick, poor thing, it would be worth getting him checked out at the vets. Unfortunately, as much as he may like chicken, just feeding cooked chicken is potentiually very harmful, cats can DIE if they don't recieve enough taurine, which is found in raw meat, particualarly in heart, and is needed for keeping a healthy heart. Cat foods have it added artificially to prevent you cat from being deficient. Also, just chicken lacks vitamins A and D and calcium, along with dear knows what else.
You could try feeding the prey model diet, which is raw feeding meat, bones and offal, but its not for everyone, so if not, please contact your vet and ask about feeding a suitable pre-made or homecooked diet. If you want any info on the raw diet for cats, just ask. |

call me cruel!!! - but surly if you just fed the cat a meal each day and left biscuits out then the cat will eat wont it?
i know the cats on the farm were happy and never went off and im sure they would of loved cooked chicken etc but it would cost a fortune!
and im sure the cat wont starve it self ,
have you tryed just ignoring it for a week and seeing what hapens also it might just go off hunting which may be better for it any way!

i dont think its harmful to cats..also i dont think you should just feed your cat chicken as most cats have a very coniving way of training there owners too feed them wat they like. i also think you should consult your vet and find out if the cat being sick and not eating is anything more serious.. ____________ Jet,Copper,Sasha,Scooby,Binky,Blade,Button,

| My little cat Shadow used to eat fish flakes all the time. She used to jump onthe lid of the fish tank to knock the tub off so she could get the lid off. |
