| Post subject: Found Orphan Kitten |
 |
|
My family found an Orphaned kitten last night on the golf course. Not wanting it to be picked up by a cyotote they brought it in and called me. I went over to see the kitten in a box, mewing and trying to get out of his box which was a releaving sign to me to see him so strong. Before wanting to help the hungry kitten my father and I tried looking for the mother but came up empty handed.
So last night I went to petsmart picked up some powdered milk, and a bottle and started feeding the little guy. He seems to me to be very young maybe four weeks old if that. His eyes are open(which are blue) and he can wobble around and meow his little head off oh and purr up a storm. I've never had to bottle feed a kitten before so this up every two hours to feed him is a new experience all on its own. Also I've been reading up on the net about the ages of kittens and what they should be able to do and I read that at four weeks the kittens should be able to go potty on their own but already I have found myself having to asist him in this task.
My question would be is there anything that you all can suggest to me to help with this little guy? He seems very healthy and strong and I want to make sure he stays that way for I'd like to give him his forever home. |

Hiya and welcome
Good on you for rescuing and looking after the kitty
It sounds like what you are doing is good, does the kitten seem underweight at all? If not you could probably extend time between feed to 4 hours ish. Also check he hasn't got any fleas, if he has you will need something like frontline spray. He is also likely to need worming, I would advise speaking to your local vet to organise that.
At 4 weeks you should be able to start weaning him onto soft kitten food, but seeing as you have just got him it would be wise to wait a few days as he may get a tummy upset if too many new foods are introduced at once. You can offer him the kitten food at room temperature from your finger for him to lick at first.
Best of luck with your new baby, do you have any pictures of him yet?

Thanks for the welcome, sorry I didnt see your post before posting the pictures. He doesnt seem under weight at all and he seems really strong which makes me happy. I've tried feeding him wet food but he wont take it right now. Instead he gives me quite a little face and starts to cry again.
Also I've contacted my vet about the deworming and he told me to wait a week or so then get it done. He doesnt have any flea's (thankfully) and all around he seems appreciative that he has something in his belly.
Also a friend of mine said he was a Maine Coon cause of the "M" on his forehead is that true? I thought he was just a regular old tabby ^_^ |

Awww, he looks like a real cutie He certainly sounds like a fighter too. Not sure about the 'M', I'll have a look at my tabby when he comes home and see if he has one!
Maybe the kitty is a little younger than 4 weeks which could be why he's not interested in food or toileting for himself yet? Best of luck with him, and please keep us updated

Welcome to the world Monty. my Tabby cat had an M on his forehead, they say Tabbys are the holiest of cats and that Mary blessed them at the time Jesus was born and that's why they wear the M on their foreheads...I'll did out the story if I can find it ____________ Natalie and Co xxx

Monty is doing great!
I couldnt tell you how revleaved I was when he made a "poo" lol. I was worried about that. Anyhoos today we are going to pick up some soft kitten food and give it a go since his little teeth are showing and its time.
He is learning to use kitty litter now which I was amazed how quickly he took on. All I did was put his little poo in the pan I put in his box and he figured it out (YAY!) I couldnt be a prouder mommy. He also is learning how to play he lays on his back swishing his little paws in the air or he attacks the stuffed animal I placed in his box. I think Monty will grow up just fine. |
