If you live on an island the price is high so its kinda cheaper on the mainland.

For a little dog as a puppy, to get jabs, then where i live it costs over £40 but there is only 1 vet on the island plus locams

I guess i am very lucky then. Dont get me wrong we do have vets here that charge way to much.

I didnt realise that they were cheap at first! I only came across them because i was looking for a vets that specialises in exotics as my local vets didnt have a clue when my chinchilla was ill ( that cost me £40 and i didnt even get an answer as to what was wrong with her)

The vets i go to are brilliant. They make sure that they can see your pet on the same day you phone them, they explain everything thats going on so im not left wandering what all the big words mean Laughing They make a fuss of all the animals and are great for prices at the same time. 100% perfect i have never had a problem with them Very Happy

Hi
I'm not sure how much my vet bill will come to, but Taffi (my dog) was taken into the vets on Sunday, had x-ray, operation and stayed in until today Wednesday, she is going back in tomorow and Friday for the day while i'm in work.
I'm glad i've got insurance with petPlan, I hope they pay out with no problem.

A good few years ago my first dog, Lady (black Lab) needed an emergancy ceserian (that's not spelt right!!!!) I cant remember how much the bill was, but my Dad said at the time that he could have had the same op on one of his cows for less than half the price!!!!! Vets targets pet owners 'cos they see pets as a luxury.

i hope the vet bill doesnt give you too much of a shock!! i also hope PetPlan pay out no problem too. All insurance companies can be a mare to deal with. Let us know how it goes. I hope Taffi is okay? x

Gosh, but vet bills in England/Scotland/Wales seem to be awful. I had heard that they were more than we expect to pay in Ireland, but not that much!

Spottydog is right - vet bills here are much cheaper. Though I live in Northern Ireland, where they are a bit more than in Eire where she is.

Meg's last trip to the vet (her annual check-up) was in May, and she got her vaccination booster, a year's supply of worming tablets, a year's supply of flea/tick protection, a general checkup including dental and all for £79! And it was the flea/tick drops that were the biggest part of that.

Our last dog (who was pts in 1999 at a cost of £20) was very ill for the last 12-18 months of her life, and we were at the vet's nearly every week. Consultations cost £5, and that was deducted from the cost of treatment (ie, you only had to pay that if your pet didn't need treatment of some kind - it was only to cut down on timewasters who would turn up for a free checkup every time their pet coughed!)

Some of the prices you are quoting are frightening! Shocked Shocked Shocked

The dogs got boosters at the weekend and it cost £70 for 2 dogs, it would have cost more if they both got kennel cough jabs but it was shared.
