 |

don't know about you but I am already sick and tired of fireworks, Maia refuses now to budge outside the door when it gets dark, afew days ago, we were walking thorugh the village and some inconsiderate little oik let a banger off, that was it, she sat down in protest and refused to go any further unless it was back home and that was at double quick time!!
It will now be at least 3 weeks before she will venture out after dark, such is her fear.
Anyway..
This weekend is going to be the worse for our pets, this is when many cats and dogs end up as casualties, due to being spooked whilst out walking or when the front door is open, they dash out into the road!
Please be extra vigilant;
1. Try to walk your dog dring the day, if you do go out at night and you think your dog maybe nervous of the bangs, keep it on a long lead.
2. When opening your front door, check where your pets are.
3. Keep your pets collars on them during this weekend if you normally take them off, this will help to reutrn your pet to you should they spook and run off.
4. If your dog or cat wants to hide in the cupboard or under the bed, then let him, if this is where he feels safe.
5. Never show anger should your dog whine or become destructive during this time.
And Wildlife
Bonfires
Bonfires can be fatal for wildlife such as hedgehogs, which often crawl in to them to sleep. Build bonfires as late as possible to reduce this risk and make sure you disturb the foundations of the bonfire to give any wildlife a chance to escape before it is lit.
Keep pets indoors whilst a bonfire is alight.
Always clear up after a fireworks party - litter is hazardous to domestic and wild animals. ____________ Natalie and Co xxx

Luckily Diesel doesnt mind them but i dread to think how my poor little Mally is going to cope She normaly hides under the bed until the morning.
In my opinion they should be banned full stop. I just dont see the point in them. Many animals suffer each year as a result of the noise or sick individuals, people get killed or badly burnt and finaly they are a waste of money for something that goes bang and flashes some pretty colours for 5 seconds.
Sorry for ranting on ____________

I keep my dogs in whenever fireworks are going off. But I have bought one of those DAP Pheremone Diffusters...damn costly but I am just hoping that it will make things a bit easier...make Phoebe calmer anyway.
Has anyone else bought one of these? if so how have you got on with them? ____________ Dog: Katie

| I have a DAP and it definatly takes the edge off the stress for my lot. Doesn't completly cure them but does help alot. You can get collars too and spray. |

Thanks for that, the vet nurse did say it wouldn't cure it completely..but would help...Fingers crossed that it helps her...I hate to see her so distressed with all the bangs. They told me the spray was only anygood for using on the dog beds or for travelling in cars....they didn't say anything about collars...I will have to look into that one. I sure could do with that sort of thing for Katie for when I take her to be trimmed..because she is absolutely awful in the car. Sings the whole time lol.
Should the vets have the collars in stock too, or where can you get them? ____________ Dog: Katie

| I was quite surprised over the bonfire weekend as we have a 13week old border terrier pup and he was absolutly fine. In fact he insisted in going outside while there were fireworks going. It didn't seem to bother him at all. Whereas our other dog 4 year old border(unfortunately when we moved he stayed with Markus's parents) he went balistic, so scared you can't even have him down stairs on christmas day with the crackers popping. They're both the same breed it's just amazing their different reactions. |
