| hi all i have an american bulldog and the breed has been in the news alot over the last 12 month's and they are now being treated like the pittbull was back in the 90's before they were baned when i walk my bulldog these days i get funny looks and whispers and people cross the road just to get away i think this is so unfair oracle is such a fantastic dog and the lady that i got her from has many ab's of her own and none of them have been funny in any way when people ask me what dog i have as soon as i say american bulldog they go no way there so nasty how could you have one of those have you not read the papers i get really angry and say have you ever met or owned one and they all say no and i say so you just go on what the papers say then and they go very red and i say unless you know a breed or have read up on the history shut up i did read up on the american bull dog before i even got one and yes i know what an ab is capable of but if you train them well and socialize them keep them happy and healthy you will have a well balanced dog and i looked up dog bite statistics and the most dog bite injuries needing hospital treatment is caused by the spaniel believe it or not so please dont judge a breed by there actions judge bad ownership and training i love my dog and i dont want to see this breed baned get to know a breed before you judge them |

awwww i do sympathise with you! we get the same comments and stares when we take Diesel ( G.S,D) for a walk. Try not to let it get to you, i just think of those people as clueless and narrow minded idiots to be honest. Everyone should know that the Media is full of rubbish.
Just keep your head held high and give them a little smile ( that's what i do ). ____________

I agree with that you have said there, if you treat a dog correctly and can anticipate behaviour traits of the breed and deal with them accordingly, you will have a well balance dog, to quote you. I think people can just be ignorant sometimes. I'm sure every one of us at some point has read something in the papers and allowed ourselves to swept up in the media hype. These people may not be dog lovers, and it might be just the "proof" they are looking to back themselves up on disliking dogs or particular breeds, even if there is not much truth to the fact.
On the other hand, I'm really not a fan of statistics. I do think that you can make stats say whatever you want them to. I think that spaniels are classed as the worst biting breed simply because there are more of them, they are more popular breed therefore more people get bitten by them, so more cases of spaniel bites are reported. But I do sympathise with you, some breeds get a bad rep which is not necessarily reflective of the true nature of that breed.
Maybe, just either ignore people who make comments about your lovely dog, or politely give them a brief education about the breed if they ask about it in any way. Perhaps that will help people to understand? Anyhow, I hope you have less trouble with people having negative thoughts about the breed and more people interested in it! |

| i would love for more people to take an interest in the breed and not just go on hear say and i read up on the spaniel bite statistics its not because there are more apparently they suffer with a genetic disorder called rage syndrome which causes the sufferer to bite with out warning but saying that iv never met an aggressive spaniel i think there lovely little dogs just goes to show even the most loveable little dogs can be ruined by a bad reputation or a genetic disorder thats why i would encourage anyone to research a breed before they get one |

By the looks on your pictures of your dog, i dont think he is dangerous, and i dont think you are a bad owner, So keep your head up high and ignore the looks what are given to you, you know what your dog is like, they dont, if they knew then they way you bought up your dog,( i would think they would be surprised) to be caring and fun to be around.
He's a cute dog and i wouldnt be scared of him if i met him

Theres no such thing as a bad dog, only ever a bad owner/breeder, so it seriously peeves me off when people blame any dog for an attack! Or if they hear one breed has attacked and assume all that breed are the same!
I've heard plenty about rotties, pitbulls and staffies, never American Bulldogs, have they been in the news? Its just the b****y media trying to incite fear and hatred because it sells papers! |

i totaly know the feeling
whenever im out with kia (gsd) people cross roads to get away from her! im not really too bothered about it any more, the training classes that i go to are the only place that kia is not judged for what breed she is but what her personality is.
just totaly ignore people when they cross the road and when people say bad things about your dog because you know what she is like.
we have AB at training and he is the sweetest most loving dog ever! ____________ My goal in life is to be as good of a person as my dog already thinks I am!
