Post subject: Reggie vet update ( again) Reply with quote

Reggie's test results have came back clear, he hasn't got ringworm ( phew!). However they also didn't show any signs of a fungal infection which the vet said could be because he had a treatment from the last vets and it may of killed it off. Either way he definatley hasn't got a fungal infection anymore.

We have been told to stop treating his ears now, just got to apply E45 cream to them for 5 days to keep them soft as the vet wants to see how they go without treatment. His nose and tail no longer need treatment either. However his legs ( back ones in particular) are very sore and they seem to have got worse. The vet said that it could be that the treatment was irratating him and causing him to nibble at them. He now has to continue with the oral medication as they contain antibiotics and he has to have his legs wiped with hibiscrub twice a day and we were also given a soothing gel to apply to his legs ( also twice daily).

The vet wants us to ring him next friday to let him know if his legs have heeled and if his ears have stayed scab free. If he hasnt recovered in anyway or he has got worse then we will have to book him in for a biopsy.

Hopefully his ears stay in good condition and his legs heel, then soon he will be able to play with little Archie again Very Happy

im so glad everything is going well and if he does keep chewing on his legs maybe you should try a lamp shade coller it might look a bit funny but it will give his legs time to get better you could make one out of a cornflake box please keep us posted and im wishing him all the best and a speedy recovery

Thanks oracle Very Happy As for the collar, i did think about it but as he has a high shelf that he jumps on i think it might get in the way and possibly cause an accident. But thanks anyway though Very Happy Wink

Reggie is having a bad day today Sad His ears are looking sore, he has his good days when you wouldn't think there was anything wrong with them so it's realy confusing now Confused

Got to ring the vet on friday so maybe he will want him back in for a check up. I cheered him up though as i ordered a new hammock for him which arrived today. It looks lovely and snuggly and he hasn't moved off it since i put it in his cage. I'm guessing he has given it the thumbs up Very Happy

I'm hoping he looks better in the morning, but with him lately nothing is straight forward or guarenteed Rolling Eyes

Well my OH rang the vet today and he is prescribing the tablets for him ( thats just what i was dreading lol). He is sending them in the post so we have to continue treating him with the medication he currently has until they arrive and have to start applying the E45 cream on his ears again.

He has to go on the tablets for 10 days and if there is still no improvement then he will be going in for a biopsy.

Yeah hopefully, but the biopsy will be reggie's last chance for a diagnosis and recovery, so i realy am hoping that the tablets work ( once i have figured out how on earth i am supposed to get him to swallow them Confused ).

He will be playing with Archie again as from tomorrow so at least that will cheer him up a bit. Very Happy

He is a darling bless him. He never used to like being handled at all but after giving him his medication twice a day now he loves a good cuddle. Shame Archie isn't so cuddly, he loves to eat my clothes and hair Rolling Eyes
