When I take my chins out for the evening, they seem bent on escaping. They chew everything in sight, nip if someone tries to pick them up, and use all means to get out the door and run down the hallway. It's hard to get in and out of the room that they're in because thy're always waiting at the door. They're not getting much exercise or running around like they used to. I know that it can be very stressful running after them to catch them, and I've tried putting out a variety of toys for them to play with and chew. Is it normal that chinchillas get bored that easily?

Chinchillas will chew anything in sight, i have chewed skirting boards and doors. Try putting them in the bathroom to run around in. I do this with mine alot, that way if anything does get ruined then it's only contained to one room.
As for catching them most chinchillas will just go in thier cage when they have had enough as they get to hot running around for to long so they are rather sensible and know when to go back in. Mine hate being caught to go back in, the best trick that works with mine is to put thier sandbath in the middle of the room and as soon as they jump in it i catch them.
As for them not running around as much as they used to it's more than likely due to the heat we have been having recently, one of mine had a series of heat seizures last year because she just didn't know when to stop and calm down so i have to be very wary when letting her out at this time of the year and take lots of precautions by giving her ice cubes in her water bottle, and putting her sandbath in the fridge ( without sand in) so that when its hot she will just jump in it and cool down. ____________
