My dad found a dove's egg the other day, he saw it fall out of the tree in our garden and obviously couldn't just leave it. We need to find somewhere suitable for it to be looked after as at the moment, its being kept in an old sock in the airing cupboard and if there is a bird inside, it is best suited in professional hands. I have no idea if there are sanctuaries that could care for this dove's egg round where I live, thats why I thought I'd ask.

So, details, we live in South Lincolnshire, near Norfolk and Cambridgeshire, if anyone can give me some place names, it would really be appreciated!

Thank a lot for any advice!

Hi,
I dont know any where that takes in eggs - you could try the rspca or local vets Im not sure if their protected or not.
How ever I have nursed eggs from chickens that have left their nest, and guess where they were all ways put ? In old socks in the aering cuboard !!!
Keep checking it and the minute cracks star to appear take it out of the sock very carfully and put in a cardboard box with hay or a towl under the egg and all around the egg and a lttle over the egg. let it hatch naturaly - once the chick has hatched keep it in the box on the floor of the cuboard and you will have to feed it I think you can buy a mush that is fed to pigeons but you could always catch worms , beatles etc in your garden and mince them a bit in your hands and then pop it straight in to the birds mouth!- but be warned this needs to happen every couple of hours !!! and dont forget to drop water too. - It may be worth phoning around some pigeon keepers as pigions and doves are very simmiler and you may be able to pop the egg un hatched under a brooding pigeon ?
I hope you get some where to look after it as its going to be alot more difficult than rearing chicks as they ate grain on their own at a day old !!
Sorry about my spelling.
love coliel
