I completely adore my three wonderful ratties. Here are some pictures of them doing what they do best...being cute!
This is the three of them playing "Fishing for Peas" on a hot day. Roland, the big male, is too chicken to actually go in the water! The girls got stuck right in.
Roland the rescue rat again being a wimp, letting tiny Kitty, who is about half his size, show him who's boss!
Kitty pretending to be a fish
There were three in the bed...
Love rats
Rat pile!
Roland checks the desk (helping me to pack, moving at the weekend, hence the messy room! The rats seemed to prefer the mess!)
Maya looking very round

Aww, they will get there! Just takes lots of time and patience at first. So rewarding when they finally trust you though. I had the two girls as babies, and took them probably a month to fully fully trust me and come to me etc. Might take a bit longer with older rats. However, my Roland, who was one year old when I got as a rescue, who'd known nothing other than filthy conditions all his life, needed absolutely no taming whatsoever! He was friendly and trusting from the moment I got him home. Have you considered going on www.fancyrats.com for specialist rattie advice on taming etc?

No no no! He's a rescue. He has been "denadded" lol. He had aggression issues with other males, so he was castrated to both reduce the hormones causing his aggression problems and make him able to live with females. That was done by the rescue group before I got him. His previous owner kept him on his own, and had 33 other rats along with other small animals too. He was an old man, unable to clean them out properly and their living conditions were awful. But now, he live a life of luxury and pampering! He might have lost his manhood but he still has two girlfriends! I wouldnt dream of breeding any pets on purpose because there are so many already in need of good homes.

That's alright, I don't blame you thinking Maya could have been pregnant, that's pretty much the shape of a rat with a litter inside her! Maya is just a wee bit of a porker compared to the other female, Kitty. She just started to fill out a lot more when they reached adulthood, and Kitty kept her slim youngster frame! I bet Maya is jealous he he.

They're really cute, especially when they all sleep together. Aren't they hard to lose when they run around (I know that if one of my chins gets under the counter she won't come out all night!)

Nah they're alright. I have a few tricks to ensure they are not uncatchable! The room which thier cage is in has been rat proofed, so they can't get under anything I can't reach. When I'm in there, I leave the door of thier cage open and they can come and go as they please. When it's time to put them away, I either pick them up and give them a cuddle before putting them back (easy to "catch", they usually come to me, especially with a food bribe!) or, if they're not feeling cuddly, just give them a treat or bit of food and they run back to thier cage to stash it! Simply close the door after them! I always feed them when they go back in thier cage at night, so that distracts them from realising the door has been shut! It's good for them to have a simple routine like that, I've noticed they adapt well to it.
