Do the vets do nail trimming? Diesel's are geeting to long because although he gets plenty of exercise they don't wear down as he has realy thick pads which means his nails barley touch the floor. I have tried to do them myself but he is having none of it. ____________

The short answer to that is yes...but it's expensive because of having to pay the consultation fee...plus the charge for cutting the nails. Your best bet might be to get a dog groomer to do them for you...good luck! ____________ Dog: Katie

Thanks for the reply Jabbro I wil give the local dog groomer's a call in the week. They aren't realy overgrown or anything serious just need a trim ( just incase people think he has curled under nails lol). ____________

you should start getting him use to having his feet touched then you wont have this problem coz you can do them yourself, kia wouldnt have any of it either but i started off with her letting me just stroke her feet and messing about with her claws while giving her treats, shes so much better but still not 100%
now with tiger i can ask him for his paw and he lets me clip each nail until im finished on that paw then he gets a treat, its taken me ages to get him to that level but its well worth it.
i get kias done at the dog groomers because her nails are so thick and strong i cant shut the clippers to actually cut them (im not some little weakling! )
she gets concreate walks every day to try and keep them as short as poss but they still grow loads! so when his have been done try and give him more concreate walks gradually building up so his pads dont get sore. ____________ My goal in life is to be as good of a person as my dog already thinks I am!

| I probably wouldn't do it at the vets, I think the best thing to do is get a groomer to do it if you have a pet salon near you, it'll be cheaper. However with more time you could try at get your dog used to you cutting his nails, we do our dog's ourself even though at the start she wriggled and squealed. Now she's fine with it which is a good thing as she's too small to go to the grooming salon. |

| I have no idea - she's coming up to a year old but whenever we take her there they look exetremely worried and tell us that she's "too small" to have her nails cut there. It's mainly because they've only had experience with dogs like German Shepards, when we walk her everyone stares because they've never seen a dog that's smaller than knee height. |
