My dad was over the field with his dog (sky) on friday night. There were a few youths over there and they started to play ball with her. After a while they went off into the woods but sky follewd them. My dad all of a sudden heard a huge yelp, he quickly ran in and found sky lying on the floor and 3 very shaken lads. It turned out that one of them had thrown a stick for her and she had jumped up to catch it but it had landed straight down her throat She had managed to cough it out but was in agony.
My dad rushed her to the vets as she was dribbling and bleeding badly. The vet couldn't see anything just by looking down her throat so she had to go staright into surgery which was worrying enough as she is getting on a bit now.
4 hours later and my dad was called to say that he could come and collect her. She has a 3cm deep open wound in her throat which was 1cm away from puncturing her wind pipe and killing her instantly. She is back at home ut very dopey as they had to give her alot of anestheic. The vet said that stitching the wound would proberly make it harder for her to eat so he left it open and had put her on a strong painkiller and antibiotics.
The youths didn't know that you shouldn't throw sticks for dogs so it was an accident but they blamed theselves.
Just hope she recovers quickly as she is far from being her usual hyperactive self ____________

How awful! This just goes to show how dangerous throwing sticks are for dogs, although its more common for a stick to stab them into the chest than injure their throats like this, glad she is ok! |
