Joy needs a new home, Afghan refugee

Postby littlelab » Sun Mar 07, 2010 10:48 am

Joy is approx 2 years old (could be younger) and we believe could have a bit of Collie in there :P she was found in a Kabul dump scavenging for food as a puppy, as you are probably aware, many Muslim countries have very little regard for dogs and treat them like vermin, however, Joy was lucky and picked up by someone who did care and taken to the only rescue in the whole of Afghanistan where NOWZAD dogs heard of her plight. She was at the rescue for a year, and it was decided that as we had raised enough money to bring Tangye home we would help another dog with the rest of the money, so NOWZAD arranged for Joy to come to the UK 4 weeks ago.

Most NOWZAD dogs have homes lined up prior to quarantine, as the majority of dogs have been adopted in Afghanistan by Contractors or armed forces personnel, but as Joy was simply a stray she has no one.

Joy is currently in Surrey in Quarantine kennels and has 5 months left, she is now fully vaccinated, and if not spayed (still waiting to find out) will be prior to rehoming.

Due to the fact that she spent a year in kennels prior to coming to the UK, she is suffering from Fear aggression, but this manifests as a snap warning, running to the back of the kennels cowering and wetting herself, however, she does come around and bonds very quickly, the kennels staff said it took roughly 3 days before she allowed them to stroke her, now she goes to them for cuddles and affection.

I have a wonderful man going in to Temperament asses her over the next few days, he has tons of experience so he is going to give me a much better report.

Joy will need to go to a home that has experience with dogs that are nervous as she will need careful socialisation in the outside world, she is OK with other dogs as she lived with them in the Afghanistan Kennels, she will not be rehomed to people who have children or visiting young children, ideally someone in Surrey or surrounds so they can start to build a bond with her.

Rescue back up is kindly provided by Romanian Animal Aid, there will be a £150 adoption fee payable.

Please email me npomroy122@googlemail.com if you are interested

Please expect to be homechecked thoroughly, you will also be expected to visit Joy in quarantine to build up trust and a bond. :)
