MOLLY HAS GOOD NEWS ! SHE'S A REAL FIGHTER !NEW PICS!

Postby pepsi97 » Wed Nov 19, 2008 2:42 am

Hello everyone, i've had some really good news about Molly, i'm so pleased for her, just had to tell someone, here is a little background info about Molly.

5 years ago i answered an ad for kittens free to good home, i went along to get a ginger kitten, all the kittens were lovely ,all a fair size except for a really tiny grey tabby female ,i felt sorry for her & took her too.
as well as being very small, her head would twitch, i thought perhaps she had some amount of brain damage, we took her to the vet, who said that she was virtually blind, and the head twitches were just her trying to sense where she was etc;, about 3 years ago she was suddenly taken ill went off her food & was very listless her gums were very white, we took her straight to the vets, they took some blood for testing , but told us to take her home as she probably would not survive the night, & it would be better for her to be with us,they

thanks clareabella, i thought that when i bought her home along with her brother Perry, that she may well have problems although i did not think it would be quite as bad, she is half the size of her brother, he is healthy,i'm pleased to say. i think in the scheme of things perhaps she was not meant to survive, nature normally would see to that, but i think that she was determined to live, bless her & i'm a real softy anyway and could not leave her behind, she is my feline version of Pepsi, & you know she has a similar nature very sweet tempered very happy & she is not bothered in the least about her disabilities, though i suppose she has never known any different, from what the vet told me her immune system is attacking her red blood cells, where as Pepsi's was attacking her platelets, so it causes slightly different symptoms . we were really astounded because in the usual progression of the disease her liver would continue to enlarge & eventually fail, but this is a mini miracle for her. its a little unlucky that i have had 2 pets with immune illnesses, but maybe it was because they both had poor starts in life, i wouldn't have swapped them for the world. i still had 10 wonderful years with my Pepsi, i really think Molly has a good chance of getting to double figures. i will take a new photo of her & post it on here tomorrow. thank you for caring xxx

what fantastic news!

Well done you and your vet for doing all the right things for her.

I had a cat a few years ago with a similar disease. He was only young and he didn't survive it. He had to have a blood transfusion from my other cat while they waited to find out what was wrong with him. All very stressful but what can you do.

Keep up the good work.

an update on Molly, since pet chat was offline we have moved back to Northants to be nearer our family, and of course we have changed vets.
Molly had to be checked over by our new vet prior to them dispensing her medication for her IMHA , immune mediated haemolytic aenemia, the vet was amazed that Molly was still here at 5years post diagnosis. She went for her 3 monthly check up as she had put on a litlle weight which is a side effect of the steriods she takes to suppress her immune system . again i am pleased to say that she is doing amazingly well and her liver was a normal size, so the vet was really pleased and she had lost a little weight.IMHA has no cure and is almost always fatal with poor life expectancy, Molly has amazed us all she has great spirit and a born survivor, a little weight gain is a small price to pay, of course corticosteriods do have side effects and she needs to be monitored regularly, and she may not have a long life, she has coped well with this disease as well as being blind and recently the loss of her brother Perry. i am a very proud mum... I will post some recent photo's of Molly when i figure out how to do it!

We have got 2 new kittens as companions for Molly, as she was grieving for Perry, i am pleased to say she is brilliant with them and they treat her with respect! although she cannot see them she is well aware of their presence and she has a little play with them then goes somewhere else if she wants to be left in peace. They will never replace Perry he was truly unique but they will be well loved.

Stories like this are so heart lifting, she was obviously meant for you. Had she gone to someone else she may not have been here now.
Give her a cuddle from me. xxx

Hi dizzy thanks for your kind comments, I came accross Molly when we went to look at her brother Perry as we were after a ginger kitten at the time as we had always had one in the family, i spotted her laying on her own in a basket, she was very tiny about half the size of the others, and i took her too as i was worried for her. I love her too bits as i did her kind sweet brother Perry, who suddenly developed chronic renal failure just 2 months ago and was put to sleep, we are devastated at his loss he was one in a million and Molly's soulmate.I think there may have been a genetic problem with the litter as they both had serious problems.though i think the mother probably had litter after litter poor thing.

Maybe that is what she needed a replacement for Perry! Glad to hear that she cheered up with her new friends. Do you have a picture of Molly? This is a lovely story thanks so much for posting :-)
